Real Kickboxing.
Not Cardio in Gloves.

Most gyms in Kochi that advertise kickboxing run it as a calorie-burn class — 45 minutes of pad-hitting to music with no technical progression. At Sparing, kickboxing is taught as a serious striking discipline.

If you're looking for kickboxing classes in Kochi that go beyond cardio-kickboxing and actually teach the sport, you're in the right place. We've been running combat sports in Ernakulam since 2019 — YMCA (Shenoys) and Edachira (Kakkanad).

The Programme

What You'll Learn

A typical 60–90 minute kickboxing session at Sparing — built progressively from your first class to sparring-ready.

Stance & Guard
Orthodox and southpaw, staying square vs bladed, protecting the liver and head — the foundation of everything.

Punches
Jab, cross, hooks, uppercuts and how they set up kicks — and vice versa. Hands and feet as one system.

Kicks
Front kick, roundhouse (low, mid, high), switch kick, side kick, teep — and the timing behind each.

Knee Strikes
Straight knees, angled knees, and basic clinch entries for when the range closes.

Defence
Blocking, checking kicks, parrying punches, slipping, and creating exit angles. Protecting yourself is half the sport.

Pad & Bag Work
Combinations on focus mitts and Thai pads, escalating in speed and complexity. Heavy bag for power and flow.
07
Sparring
Technical sparring starts only after 6–8 weeks of consistent training. Light, supervised, never forced.

Conditioning
Full-body cardiovascular work tailored to kickboxing — not generic HIIT.

Start Here.

Most people who join our kickboxing class have never trained a striking sport. That's normal. Here's what your first month looks like.

1
Week 1–2
Foundations
Stance, guard, basic footwork, jab, front kick. Low-intensity, high repetition. No sparring, no heavy bag pounding — building the movement pattern first.
2
Week 3–4
Combinations
Add cross, hooks, roundhouse kick, and basic combinations. Pad work with coaches. By month-end you'll throw clean 3–4 strike combos with proper balance.

Month 2+
Progression
Heavier pad work, defensive drills, full striking arsenal, and — if you want it — light technical sparring under direct supervision. Sparring is never forced.

No prior fitness level required. Walk in 10 minutes early and ask for the duty coach.

  • Water bottle and small towel
  • Hand wraps (we stock them at the gym)
  • Boxing gloves — borrow from gym for first class
  • Shin guards come later, once partner drills begin
No Prior Fitness Required

If you can walk briskly for 20 minutes, you can start. Conditioning is built progressively — nobody is asked to do something their body isn't ready for.

Kiran V S leads the kickboxing and combat sports programme at Sparing Lifestyle. With years of competitive experience across kickboxing, boxing, and MMA, Kiran brings a no-shortcut coaching philosophy that corrects technique in real time — not after bad habits have formed.

The rest of the senior coaching team brings direct experience across kickboxing, MMA, SAMBO, wrestling, and boxing. You're not being taught by a personal trainer who took a weekend certification.

Honest answers to the questions first-timers ask before joining kickboxing.

What's the difference between boxing and kickboxing?+
Boxing uses only hands — jab, cross, hook, uppercut — with heavy focus on head movement and footwork. Kickboxing adds kicks, knees, and clinch work. Kickboxing is a broader striking skill set; boxing is a deeper specialisation. Both are offered at Sparing.
Is kickboxing safe for beginners?+
Yes. Beginners don't spar. You spend the first 6–8 weeks on fundamentals — stance, basic strikes, pad work. Injury risk in that phase is low, similar to a structured fitness class. Sparring is introduced only when defensive fundamentals are solid.
What style of kickboxing do you teach?+
A blend of sport kickboxing and Muay Thai influence — full use of hands, kicks, and knees, with clinch work introduced as students progress. The style serves both recreational students and those training toward amateur competition.
How much does kickboxing cost at Sparing?+

How long until I can spar?+
Typically 6–8 weeks of consistent training, depending on how quickly your defensive fundamentals come together. Sparring at Sparing is always light, technical, and closely supervised. Students who don't want to spar are never pressured.
Do I need to be fit before joining?+
No. The class is the fitness programme. If you can walk briskly for 20 minutes, you can start.
Can women join kickboxing classes?+
Yes. Mixed batches at both branches include regular women students. Happy to connect you with a current student before you join.
How is kickboxing different from MMA?+
Kickboxing is a standing striking sport. MMA adds grappling, wrestling, and ground fighting to striking. Many Sparing students start with kickboxing and later cross-train into MMA.
